Deputy Minister to Speak at Chamber AGM
The Pictou County Chamber of Commerce has announced that Ava Czapalay, Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Minister of the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration will be guest speaker at the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting, March 6.
“The timing of Ava Czapalay’s visit fits so well with the work the Chamber has been leading on workplace safety, attraction and retention and culture change”, says Jack Kyte, Chamber Executive Director. “Our employers are facing significant challenges dealing with changing employee expectations, mental health and social change in the workplace and government wants to be part of the solution.”
Deputy Minister Czapalay, has broad responsibilities which impact business success, including the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia which is undergoing significant change with a new mandate to include gradual onset stress as a compensable injury.
Kyte said that the groundbreaking work done with the involvement of local businesses last year clearly showed the social side of business management. Pictou County businesses are moving forward, using safety as a conduit to improved communications in dealing with issues like harassment, diversity and inclusion to create a positive workplace culture.
The AGM will be held at Summer Street Industries, including a Chamber members’ business meeting and luncheon event. Tickets are available through the Chamber website: www.pictoucountychamber.com
