As part of the Chamber’s advocacy work, the Chamber met with Karen Adams, the CEO of the Nova Scotia Workers Compensation Board in February to discuss new WCB policies being implemented this year.
WCB claims represent a significant cost to our local businesses, both in terms of financial impact but in relation to employees losing time from the job. The new policies will allow the Board to compensate for gradual onset stress which occurred in the workplace.
Work done last year by Chamber members identified the need to address employee wellness, harassment, inclusion and mental health, significant issues for business owners in many workplaces. The new WCB policies reflect these challenges.
Work is underway now by the WCB to determine how best to manage stress related claims in the best interest of employees and employers. Ms. Adams welcomed the Chamber’s input and advice.
