The Pictou County Chamber of Commerce has been a pillar of the local business community for more than 40 years. A non-profit organization managed by a volunteer Board of Directors, the Chamber advocates for business and regional economic growth. As a member-based organization, the Chamber offers unique affinity benefits to its members, organizes education and training events, and undertakes special projects of value to business and the community. Known for its efforts to collaborate with local government and economic development organizations, the Chamber also plays an active role in support of the overall Pictou County non-profit /charitable sector.

Job Description
The Executive Director (ED) is the key management leader of the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce. The ED oversees the administration, programs, staff, and organization’s planning. Other key duties include advocating for its members, community outreach, marketing, and fundraising. The position reports to the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Advocate for local business interests
- Act as spokesperson and build community relations
- Develop and deliver programs
- Enhance membership benefits
- Liaise with other government departments and economic development agencies
- Engage with other key stakeholders in the community
- Create an annual business plan that delivers on the strategic priorities
- Foster membership growth
- Oversee daily operations
- Supervise staff
- Manage the budget and cash flow
- Increase revenue
- Develop policies
- Onboards new members
- Administer board activities
- Support board committee activities
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, non-profit leadership, public relations, or a related field.
- At least five years of management experience, preferably in a nonprofit, membership-driven organization, or economic development department or agency.
- Proven track record of successful team leadership and financial management.
- Strong organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, and task facilitation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building and sustaining effective relationships.
- Knowledge of fundraising strategies, grant proposal writing, and community engagement.
- Proficient digital skills
Working Conditions
- Flexible office hours with occasional evenings and weekends for events and meetings.
- Shared office space in New Glasgow’s Ignite/Velsoft building
- Local travel is required; occasional regional travel may be necessary.
- Supervises one administrative position
- Reports to the Board of Directors
- The compensation package, including benefits, will be customized based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and performance metrics.
